“I wanna go too” is the typical wail/whine from our 5 year old when we head out to dinner without her. That happens maybe once a month, if we are lucky. Recently we were able to score an evening out to a local Italian restaurant, La Siciliana. Drawn in by the promise of authentic Italian food and wine and greeted by the mostly Sicilian-German staff, we decided to eat outside on a summer evening. We were also able to catch one of the World Cup matches on the big screen TV propped up on the outdoor bar while munching on a nice antipasti plate.
Speaking of food…the menu is huge! You can download or view it here. Prices are a bit more than a typical pizzeria, but they offer so much more. Pizza, huge salads and pasta dishes, chicken and fish, weekly specials, and desserts. Oh, the desserts. A huge plus is the complimentary digestivo or dessert wine at the end of a lovely and filling meal: fine grappa or sweet marsala.
If you’re ever in the Mainz/Wiesbaden area, it’s worth the trip into Hechtsheim to grab supper here. You won’t regret it! There are several parking spots within the walls of the restaurant so you don’t have to worry about trying to find a parking spot. It’s about a 5 minute walk from the nearest strassebahn/tram stop, Burgerhaus in Hechtsheim, so you don’t have to worry about driving and drinking either.
